Red Bull's striking new office space, project managed by ARCADIS AYH, slides into the top spot winning the 'Total Workspace Concept' Award
Red Bull's new cutting edge office accommodation in Soho, designed by Jump Studios and project managed by ARCADIS AYH Plc, has won the 'Total Workspace Concept' award at the prestigious FX Awards. The fun fuelled design concept took into account Red Bull's playful image, whilst focussing on promoting movement around the spectacular new office space and interaction between team members.
Carefully considering how they could successfully merge two separate offices into one communal space, the main challenge the Red Bull directors, the design team and ARCADIS AYH faced was how to connect the open-plan offices on levels three and four in an unusual yet innovative way. The result was unlike any other office space in London.
Normally, the mode of transport to different levels of a building is a lift or stairs, perhaps even an escalator, but workers in the new Redbull HQ can now enjoy an exhilarating ride down a fibreglass slide between floors and for the less adventurous, the alternative is a stunning floating staircase. The bespoke slide runs off onto the floor on the third level and forms a raised platform for a casual meeting area.
Staff can also enjoy a high-spec 'social zone' with a bar and kitchen which looks onto a mixture of seating and tables featuring the inflatable DoNut range by Belgian firm Extremis and container tables by Moooi. Opposite the bar, tinted glass screens mask three meeting rooms. Two have relaxing low level seating and in the third the meeting table is a circular ping-pong table, complete with bats and a ball.
The 1,860sq m concept-led office cost £2m to construct over a ten month period.
Phil Harcus, from ARCADIS AYH Plc who project managed the fit-out, comments: "This has been a tremendous project to manage, the team's fun and creative approach to the project has been key to its success. Red Bull and Jump's exciting design ideas for the project led to many cost and health and safety conundrums for us to deal with. We had to ensure that whatever they came up with could be constructed. In particular the introduction of the slide, which is unique to this building, took some careful and innovative planning. We are delighted that it has been recognised at these prestigious awards."
