Millshomes Ltd appoints ARCADIS AYH plc to drive forward showcase mill conversion in Stockport

Property developer Millshomes Ltd has appointed ARCADIS AYH plc, a leading provider of construction and property consultancy services, to manage the completion of the first phase of its prestigious Victoria Mill development in Reddish, near Stockport, Greater Manchester.

ARCADIS AYH plc will bring their considerable project and cost management expertise to ensure that the 180 apartments being developed in phase one are completed on time,, following the announcement last week that the contractors Dew Construction had gone into liquidation.

Richard Sym, Director of Millshomes Ltd said: "We were naturally very surprised and saddened to learn that Dew Construction had had to call in the receivers last week as a result of a pensions crisis at its parent company.

"The standard of their work at Victoria Mill has been very good indeed and I am pleased that ARCADIS AYH plc has opted to retain the existing project team to ensure that those high standards are not compromised as phase one nears completion."

He added: "With any project of this size it is essential to have contingency plans in place and I am delighted that we have been able to find a world class and very experienced company to keep the project on track.

"Future phases of the project will not be affected, either in terms of quality or timescale."

ARCADIS AYH plc, which is part of ARCADIS, Europe's third largest property consultancy group, will also deliver the building contract for phase two of the project which involves the sensitive conversion of an adjacent mill to provide a further 138 apartments for sale and shared ownership.

Nigel Maidment, Board Director of ARCADIS AYH plc said: "We are delighted to have been appointed as project manager on both phases of this prestigious development. Our past experience in managing the delivery of residential developments and Mill projects of this scale will ensure that each phase will be completed on time without compromising the quality of this unique development."

Millshomes Ltd is leading on the development of the Grade 2 listed Victoria and Elisabeth Mills in the heart of the Houldsworth Village conservation area, just 5 miles from Manchester city centre.

The £60m project is set to attract over 1,000 new residents to the area, which last month was named as one of the top 10 UK buy-to-let investment opportunities in Channel 4's "Where Best to Invest."

Over two thirds of the apartments in phase one have already been sold or reserved and Millshomes report that the demand has remained high despite the recent news about Dew Construction.

The Victoria Mill marketing suite and show apartment is open from Tuesday to Sunday. To make a viewing appointment, please call selling agents Savills on 0161 975 6363 or visit www.cottonquarter.co.uk.
